Johann Christian (17351782), the eleventh child of J.S. Bach. He was active during the era known as the Early Classical period, when the musical style in vogue was quite different from that of his fathers time, which was characterized by full-blown polyphony. It was the era of the Gallant stylea time when clear, accessible music was preferred over complex counterpointand there is no doubt that this work by J.C. Bach, written with flowing melodies and simple harmonies, directly influenced the young Mozart.
