Description:

This collection of works was composed by Stravinsky in the United States during World War II. After settling in Paris following the outbreak of World War I in 1914, Stravinsky fled to the United States in 1939 to escape the Nazis, severing his ties with his native Russia. The three-movement symphony, said to have been inspired by wartime newsreels, is the final work of his neoclassical period. A masterpiece in which polyphonic techniques and jazz influences can be heard, it premiered in New York. The Russian-Style Scherzo is a cheerful and exquisitely crafted little piece depicting a Russian festival; the St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Titov, delivers a performance that is, quite literally, full of joy.Tobu Land System
