Sbastien Derain, a gem of French ancient music! Sbastien Derain, who graduated with first prize from the Paris Conservatory, where he studied harpsichord and bass continuo with the great Couperin’s “Luzon de Tenebr”, and was trained by Leonhardt, Anthey, Aspern, Kenneth Gilbert and Rousset, is a rising star in the world of French classical music. He has led Les Nouveaux Caractres, a period orchestra he founded in 2006, in a new recording of Franois Couperin’s “L’Uson de Tenebr”, a masterpiece among the “L’Uson de Tenebr” (Recitation of the Dark) with a moving and mournful text taken from Jeremiah’s Lamentations. The main vocalists are Caroline Mutel, co-founder of Les Nouveaux Caractres, and Carine Deschaye, who has been with the group since its inception.
