Winner of the Mozart International Competition The Liturgical World of Hoppe Esther Hoppe, born in 1978, is a Swiss female violinist. She studied at the Academy of Music in Basel, the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, and the Guildhall School of Music in London, and won the first prize at the 8th International Mozart Competition in Salzburg in 2002. She has performed Saint-Saens’ “Carnival of the Animals” (EMI) with Payu and Capuon on CD, but this is her first appearance on the Claves label, where she performs Mozart, her specialty. The coupling is Stravinsky’s Divertimento.The ballet music “The Kiss of the Fairy” orchestrated by Stravinsky from Tchaikovsky’s piano pieces and songs in 1928 was rearranged for violin and piano in 1934 with the help of violinist Dushkin. The soft piano of Pressler’s favorite pupil, Beatson, is also a treat to hear.
