The Deutsche Kammerphil, led by Pervo Jrvi and based in Bremen, Germany, will perform Brahms’ masterpiece, the “German Requiem,” in a concert celebrating the 150th anniversary of its premiere. Brahms’ “German Requiem” depicts a “prayer” for mankind that transcends the framework of religion. The first performance of this work (except for the first draft and the fifth piece) was held on April 10, 1868, at the Bremen Cathedral. On April 10, 2018, exactly 150 years after its premiere, the Bremen-based Deutsche Kammerphil and Paavo Jrvi performed the “German Requiem” at St. Petri Cathedral in Bremen. In 2004, Paavo Jrvi became the artistic director of the orchestra.
