The Dutch cellist Peter Wispelway, who has captivated the world with his original music and perfect technique, is back with his second release on EVIL PENGUIN RECORDS, following Bach’s Suite for Unaccompanied Cello. The program is woven around the word “Rococo”: C.P.E. Bach’s Rococo style, Tchaikovsky’s “Rococo” theme, and Stravinsky’s Italian Suite based on “Pulcinella”, which was written under the influence of the Baroque and Rococo periods. C.P.E. Bach plays with full power, as does Wispelwey, with a lively orchestra.Stravinsky’s “Italian Suite,” arranged for solo cello and string ensemble accompaniment, underscores the work’s baroque character. The performance does not disappoint, with a folkloric dance-like third movement that stands out for its unique Whisperway power, a superbly crafted tarantella, and a rousing finale.
