Former Vienna Boys Choir star Terry Vai sings Heinichen’s CantataHeinichen was music director at the Dresden court and an outstanding musician as well as an important 18th century theorist who published such treatises as “The Passage in Composition” and “The Passage Scheme. In 1710, he traveled to Venice to study the style of Italian opera. In 1710, he went to Venice to study the Italian operatic style and completed two operas. During his stay in Italy, he became acquainted with important composers such as Vivaldi and Gasparini. Heinichen’s musical style was greatly influenced by this stay in Italy, mixing German, French, and Italian musical language and having a slightly Gallic, pre-classical atmosphere rather than pursuing a counterpoint structure. In particular, the cantatas and other vocal pieces recorded here show the influence of Venetian opera of the early 18th century. The solo
