Description:
Live performance by Berry, the famous Viennese bass! Conducted by Bhm, Karajan and Bernstein! Walter Berry 1955-1993 This is a live recording at the Vienna State Opera of Walter Berry (1929-2000), one of the most famous bass-baritones of post-war Vienna. One of the rarest recordings is a full 12 minutes of the second act of “Der Rosenkavalier” on April 13, 1968, conducted by Bernstein; “Falstaff” on February 2, 1983, conducted by Maazel, then music director. The “Cosi fan tutte” of April 2, 1966, still sung in German, is performed by a full cast, including Hilde Gden, Christa Ludwig, and Waldemar Kment. While many of the others can be heard as complete recordings in some form or another, you are sure to enjoy Berry’s supreme art. Parsifal” (Stein, 1979), “Falstaff” and “Capriccio” (Schneider, 1993) are in stereo. Comment courtesy of King International.
