Description:

The great Brazilian composer Villa-Lobos is said to have been able to play almost all instruments. It may seem strange that all of his works for guitar, which must have been his most familiar instrument, can be contained on a single CD, but of course the quality is superb. The exotic flavor of the Brazilian sentiment that pervades the music, especially in the dances, is exceptional. In the “Exercises,” the technical possibilities of the guitar are explored, and it would not be an exaggeration to say that his achievements are comparable to those of Chopin and Liszt on the piano and Paganini on the violin, in that he has highly realized the “expression unique to the instrument” while escaping from conventionality.
