Following HMU807631, which contains Nos. 2 and 5, this is the second set of Prokofiev piano concertos by Kholodenko and Haas-Bedoya, now complete. Holodenko became the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra’s first “artistic partner” after winning the 14th Van Cliburn International Competition in 2013. This is his third disc with the orchestra, and the ensemble is increasingly precise. The Prokofiev concertos are all difficult to play, but Kholodenko conquers them with a technique reminiscent of Horowitz’s, and lets us enjoy the wonderful music with a pleasant sense of speed.
