This CD contains piano works composed by Karol Szymanowski (1882-1937), a representative of the “National Music School” in Poland, during the third period of his creative career, when he was devoted to the folk music of the Tatra region in southern Poland and had a villa in Zakopane, Poland. The program consists of the mazurkas (22 pieces), which are the first to be mentioned as an influence from the folk music of the Tatra region, and the “Four Polish Dances” composed in 1926, as well as the “Polish Songs” arranged by Szymanowski himself for solo piano. The mazurkas by Szymanowski, which are characterized by unique rhythms and phrases that are sometimes intense, are played by Marek Szlezel, who was born in Krakow in 1981 and studied at the Ecole Normale Conservatoire in Paris.
