The masterpiece of Ballets Russes designed by Picasso is revived in modern Pompeii! In the early 20th century, when Sergei Diaghilev led the Ballets Russes outdoor performances at the Opera de Rome led by Abbagnato, an etoile of the Paris Opera Ballet, Paris attracted talented artists who created a series of works that will remain for posterity. This film includes two ballets from among the many masterpieces of that era, Satie’s “Pallade” and Stravinsky’s “Pulcinella,” for which Pablo Picasso created the costumes and stage sets. The performances were held in the open-air grand theater in the ruins of Pompeii, ancient Rome, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Picasso’s visit to Italy. In addition, the content recreates the stage for the premiere, including the choreography by Leonide Massine.
