Recorded live at the 2007 Mahler Festival in Jihlava, Czech Republic. Martin Trnovsky, who studied conducting under Ancell at the Prague Conservatory, is the conductor here. He is known for his ability to present large scale works in an intimate setting, and this album features works by Richard Strauss, Korngold, and Mahler, three of the leading composers of the late Romantic period. Strauss’s orchestral works, Korngold’s concertos, and Mahler’s vocal works are all different from each other, but Trunovsky’s performances are superb, and he is in perfect harmony with the soloists.
