40 Composers Dedicate Festive Pieces to Celebrate Ensemble Modern’s 40th Anniversary in 2020. 40 composers of varying styles have composed and dedicated festive pieces for the ensemble, all of which are spectacular, small pieces of 1 to 4 minutes in duration, all of them celebrating the 40th anniversary of Ensemble Modern. All of the pieces are small, ranging from one to four minutes in length, and are a spectacular mosaic of today’s contemporary music. While similar groups such as Ensemble Intercontemporain and Klangforum Wien perform only works written in a particular European avant-garde style, this program includes not only avant-garde works but also works by Miles Davis-influenced Mark Anthony Tanej, rock musician Fred Frith, and the Miles Davis-inspired Mark Anthony Tanisi. The selection of musicians, the sense of music selection, and the originality of the project are unparalleled.All
