Zemlinsky (1871-1942) is a composer currently in the spotlight. He was a composer of the same generation as Mahler and Schoenberg, and although few of his works have been published, they are all beginning to be recognized again as masterpieces of the 20th century. This album features several of his songs and String Quartet No. 2, arranged by contemporary composer Richard Dnser. Dnser, a student of Francis Bult and Hans Werner Henze, is an accomplished orchestrator. The songs have been expanded from piano accompaniment to orchestral music, and the string quartet to a chamber symphony, each with more color and a richer aroma. This is the second recording of Zemlinsky’s works for ONDINE, following “The Little Mermaid” (ODE 1237). Naxos Japan
