Paolo Bonomini is the winner of the cello section of the J.S. Bach International Competition 2016. His debut album is a collection of works by his fellow Italian composer. The album includes a wide range of classical and contemporary works. Studied with Mario Brunello and Antonio Meneses, among others, Bonomini is a soloist as well as a cellist in the Boccherini Trio. Joseph Marie Clment Dallabaco’s “11 Capriccios” is a beautiful work for solo cello with a light, yet poignant melody in the vein of J.S. Bach’s “Suite for Unaccompanied Cello”. Bonomini’s fresh cello tone makes the work shine even brighter. Dallapiccola’s “Chaconne, Interludes and Adagio” draws us in with its sharply honed concentration.
