Stephen Yip’s music inspired by Matsuo Basho’s haiku! Composer Stephen Yip was born in Hong Kong in 1971 and has won numerous composition competitions. He is currently based in the United States, where he is a professor of music at Houston Community College and works as a freelance composer. Yip’s style, which skillfully manipulates Western and Eastern music, has been described as “colorful, textured music inspired by traditional Asian music. The “Lenga [Renga], In Kigo [Seasonal Poem]” and the title track, “By Moonflowers,” included on this album, were composed with Matsuo Basho as inspiration. Tokyo M-Plus
