Jeanne Bov (19152010) was a Swiss pianist. At the age of 15, she enrolled at the cole Normale de Musique in Paris, where her classmates included Dinu Lipatti and Sanson Franois. She was a devoted admirer of Alfred Cortot, and their friendship lasted until his death. Together with friends, she purchased an old church in France and organized a music festival there titled A Musical Offering, which blended music and literature. This album is a partial recording of that event. CD 1-2 consists of poetry recitations, while CD 2-2 features poetry recitations accompanied by piano. Of particular note on this album is CD 1-17, which features Francks Symphonic Variations for Piano and Orchestra, conducted by Cortot and performed on piano by Bov. Although the recording is old, it is a masterful performance that exudes the charm of Parisian art from a bygone era.Tobu Shoji Co., Ltd.
