Frank and Francesco: Two Zappas Who Transcend Time, and a Collection of Works Inspired by Them. This album features a collaboration between the brilliant composer and cellist Giovanni Sollima and Vanni Morettoa double bassist, violone player, composer, and conductorwho, together with the early music ensemble Il Pomodoro to present works by the two Zappas alongside their own compositions related to them. This program has already thrilled audiences in live performances. Morettos Zappas Revenge is an arrangement of Frank Zappas works for an 18th-century ensembleconceived as either a gesture of gratitude or retaliation for Frank Zappas performance of Francescos works on electronic instruments. Highlights include the use of gut-stringed instruments, a classical oboe, harpsichord, andin a daring movea natural horn in this tonally unconventional piece. (C)RS
