Even though its billed as Choral Music for Children, given that its by Rautavaara (1928), one of todays most mystical composers, theres no doubt youll hear some incredibly fascinating music. Its full of energy right from the very first piece, Marjatta. Based on the Nordic epic Kalevala, Rautavaara himself adapted the text and crafted it into a one-act mystical drama. While a previous recording featuring Rautavaaras own recitation was released on the BIS label, this performance has far more depth and is rendered with a much more striking richness. Furthermore, The Carpenters Son, as the title suggests, celebrates the joy of Jesus birth. The suite based on Lorcas poetry is a relatively well-known work.
