Bachs mature-period cantatas, performed with the BCJs understated artistryThis album features three cantatas from around 1726. By this time, Bach had stopped churning out new cantatas and was reusing existing works. Cantata No. 39 also incorporates material from a work by his cousin, the composer Johann Ludwig Bach. Even more intriguing is the inclusion of a Sinfonia, believed to be the overture to an unknown cantata. It is characterized by a virtuosic violin solo.
