Simone Young and the Hamburg State Operas Ring Cycle is finally reaching its climax. It will draw to a close with this performance of *Gtterdmmerung*. The casting for Siegfried remained unchanged, with Christian Franz making full use of his resonant voice to masterfully sing through this monumental role. The role of Brnnhilde is played by veteran Deborah Polaski. With her commanding presence, she demonstrates the dignity of one of todays finest Wagnerian sopranos. Tomlinson, another veteran, takes on the role of Hagen. He delivers a thoroughly satisfying performance as the scheming villain. Youngs conducting imbues the orchestras sound with a surging, undulating quality, while also showcasing rich harmonies and precise light motifs.
