This album, the 20th in the series, brings together three works related to attempts to invite Haydn to London in the early 1780snearly a decade before the premiere of his famous series of 12 London Symphonies. Although Haydns contract with the Esterhzy family initially stipulated that his works were not to be disclosed outside the household, his patrons attitude eventually changed. Seeing this as a prime opportunity to showcase the familys cultural sophistication, many of his symphonies were published throughout Europe an
