Julian Pregardien is a young tenor who commands a strong presence on the scene. His father, Christoph Pregardien, is also an outstanding lieder singer, and Julian himself is making a name for himself in the fields of sacred music and lieder. For his first recording on the ALPHA label, he chose the song cycle *Winterreise*. However, this is not the cycle written by Schubert, but rather an expansive, orchestral song cycle created by the later composer Hans Zender, who shaped it as if it were an opera or a musical narrative. This work was also performed by his father, Christoph, who helped make its uniqueness widely known.
