Berliozs version of *Orfeo ed Euridice*, which brings even greater brilliance to Glucks masterpiece, is here!Glucks masterpiece *Orfeo ed Euridice* (sung in Italian) premiered in Vienna in 1762; after undergoing extensive revisions in 1774, it premiered in Paris as *Orphe et Eurydice* (sung in French). Berlioz, who was deeply enamored with Gluck, conceived the idea of reworking this piece. He not only cast a mezzo-soprano in the title role of Orpheus and expanded the instrumental ensemble but also inserted cadenzas into several arias, transforming the entire work into a more spectacular production. As a result, the performance was a resounding success.
