Even after transitioning from a popular pianist to a conductor in the 1970s, Eschenbach has placed as much importance on nurturing and promoting the talents of young musicians as he has on building his own career. Christopher Park, who was born in Bamberg and is of German and Korean descent, is one such musician. Park is a prodigy who began receiving specialized music education at the university level at the age of 12. In 2014, he won the Bernstein Prize at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festivalan award that also launched the careers of Lang Lang and Lisa Batiashvili. During the 20162017 season, he was selected as one of the Rising Stars by the European Concert Hall Organisation (ECHO). He is a pianist who is attracting significant attention.
