A definitive collection of works by British experimental composer Parsons,who formed the Scratch Orchestra with Cardew in the 1960s!This album features clarinet works by composers of various generations and backgrounds. With the exception of Kagel, whose work appears last on the album, the composers are all part of the European avant-garde music tradition and have been significantly influenced by the so-called New Complexity movement. The album is packed with aggressive works that overwhelm the listener, featuring special clarinet techniques and virtuosic playing that seems to push the instruments limits to the extreme. Shuko Morishita of Japan, a graduate of the Tokyo University of the Arts, is currently (as of 2018) a graduate student at the University of Huddersfield in the UK, studying composition under Aaron Cassidy.
