This program combines two romantic pieces by Schumann with two contemporary works. Hans Ulrich Lehmann (19372013) was a composer based in Zurich. Without Words, composed in 2011, bears strong traces of avant-garde music from the latter half of the 20th century. Gyrgy Kurtgs (1926) Homage to R. Sch. was composed in 1990. R. Sch. refers, of course, to Robert Schumann. Jrg Deller is a Zurich-born violist who performs extensively throughout Europe. Franois Benda is a clarinetist born in Brazil in 1964.
