Geminiani’s music echoes in 18th century LondonGeminiani (1687-1762), an Italian who achieved success in England at a young age, honed his skills in violin and composition under Corelli and Alessandro Scarlatti, and settled in London in 1714 at the age of 26. He quickly made a name for himself as an ensemble player, violinist, and teacher, and even conducted an orchestra in many performances in association with Handel.Geminiani’s ability as a composer is demonstrated in the ensemble concerto, in which he seeks expression outside of Corelli’s influence, and here the Italian ancient instrument ensemble “L’Archicembalo” gives an excellent performance rich in nuance.The booklet (12 pages in English and Italian) includes a commentary by Daniela Demicheli, who performs the piece, etc. Made in the EU, the disc is manufactured by Optimal Media of Germany, a well-known major-label company.
