The Klezmatics

Description:

Formed in the 1980s in downtown New York City, the Klezmatics boldly reimagined traditional klezmer music. Their seminal 1990 album “Rhythm & Jews” is finally being reissued as “Revisited,” with the latest remastering and addition of found material. Klezmer music is the festive sound of Eastern European Jewish weddings. The melodies of clarinets and violins move back and forth between laughter and tears, and danceable rhythms and heart-wrenching melancholy coexist. The Klezmatics combine this with jazz, rock, folk, and even a touch of the New York underground. The result is a sound that respects tradition, yet is urban and sharp.
