Catalyst (Jazz)

The 1973 jazz/funk masterpiece album by Catalyst, a funk/jazz quartet from Philadelphia whose music was a precursor to later jazz fusion artists, is being reissued on vinyl more than 50 years later.Influential enough to be compared to John Coltrane, Weather Report, and Return to Forever, the band built an enthusiastic following in the 1970s, releasing a total of four albums on labels such as Cobblestone and Muse. The band’s songs “Ain’t it the Truth” and “Ile Ife” were covered by Amir “Questlove” Thompson and Christian McBride on their album The Philadelphia Experiment. The band’s mastery of soul-jazz and moody fusion, which lightly moves back and forth between the two, is on full display. Cut from the original tape (AAA) by Kevin Gray and pressed on 180g heavy vinyl at RTI.Comes in a gatefold tip-on jacket.
