Kenari Quartet

Description:

The saxophone, invented in the 1840s by the Belgian composer Adolphe Sax, was championed primarily by French composers who took an interest in this new instrument, and it spread widely across genres. In this album, the Kenari Quartet, an ensemble of young musicians, explores the spirit evoked by this instrument with its unique and varied timbres. Max Dubois was a composer who studied at the Conservatoire Suprieur de Musique in Tours and won the Prix de Rome in 1955. Since its premiere in 1962, this Quartet has become a staple of the genres repertoire. Piern was the winner of the Prix de Rome in 1882. He is known for his numerous playful compositions. Faur, who studied under Nadia Boulanger, composed a series of works for saxophone from the mid-1930s through the early 1960s. This little quartet also has a lighthearted atmosphere.
