A collection of piano works by Brazilian composer Henrique Oswald (18521931). After giving his debut recital at the age of 6 (or 7), he traveled alone to Europe to study at the age of 16. While studying piano in Florence under a pupil of Hans von Blow, he encountered the works of Liszt and Brahms. He returned to Brazil in 1903, having established himself as a composer, and remained active there for the rest of his life. His works are fascinating blends of French esprit and Brazilian folk music, and Sergio Monteiro (piano) brings this intricate world to life with a compelling performance. Recorded in 2014. (C)RS
