Heart-wrenching music painted with a vivid palette of soundsThe Czech composer Josef Suk (18741935) was Dvoks son-in-law and the grandfather of the violinist of the same name. Asrael is the angel of death. It is said that Suk began composing this work in 1904 as a memorial to his mentor and father-in-law, Dvok, but after the sudden death of his beloved wife, he completed it in the midst of despair. This monumental work, with a running time of one hour, unfolds with heart-wrenching yet beautiful music through a brilliant orchestration reminiscent of R. Strauss.
