After graduating from Tokyo Metropolitan Musashino High School, he studied abroad in Europe at the Paris Conservatoire National Suprieur de Musique in France, the Berlin University of the Arts in Germany (including its graduate program), and the International Piano Academy of Lake Como in Italy. At age 20, he won first prize and the Chopin Prize at the Cleveland International Piano Competition in the United States. He has since placed in various competitions. Since his debut at Lincoln Center in New York in 2003, he has performed more than 50 times across the United States and regularly gives recitals in Europe, South Africa, and Asia.
