Richters Vibrant Performances from His YouthBelieve it or not, a recording of Richter at age 33 has resurfaced. Its a 1948 live recording from Moscowmade a full 10 years before the Sofia Live performance that astonished the world. His Bach is brimming with incredible vitality; one can only imagine how overwhelmed those who attended the actual concert must have been. While the Sonata in B-flat Major, BWV 963 has previously been released on the Venezia label, the other pieces from that same concert are making their debut here. Furthermore, the English Suite No. 3, recorded a month and a half later, is also a rare find. Although Richter went on to leave behind many wonderful Bach recordings in his later years, the youthful energy heard here is truly precious.Its surprising to find Beethovens Piano Sonata No. 22 from the November concert included here as well.
