A collection of church music by Johann Staden (15811634), a composer of the late Renaissance period, performed by the Winzerbach Boys Choir, a prestigious German boys choir founded in 1946. Staden was born in Nuremberg. After serving as court organist in Bayreuth and Dresden, he returned to his hometown of Nuremberg in 1618, where he took up the position of organist at the prestigious St. Sebald Church and remained in that post for the rest of his life. Through counterpoint characterized by simple rhythms yet excellent harmony, he introduced the concept of sacred music as a duty; this was passed down as a traditional compositional method in Nuremberg and later influenced composers such as Pachelbel and Scheidt.
