The Goldberg Variations by Junsei Watanabe, a Leading Figure in the Harpsichord WorldJunsei Watanabe, who has produced numerous acclaimed recordings on historic instruments, has now turned his attention to the *Goldberg Variations*. He tackles Bachs unparalleled masterpiece on an instrument crafted by Martin Skovronek, the great harpsichord maker who led the early music world in the latter half of the 20th century. The album also includes the 14 Canons (discovered in 1975), which Bach himself wrote in the margins of his personal copy of the first edition of the *Goldberg Variations*. Composed based on the same bass theme as the *Goldberg Variations*, these canons present Bachs magnificent universe as an even more organic whole.
