The saxophone is an instrument invented in the first half of the 19th century. This album features four works composed in the first half of the 20th century and explores the instruments innovative nature at that time. All are original works for the instrument. For example, Villa-Loboss Fantasia, dedicated to the virtuoso Marcel Mule, incorporates the vibrato technique that Mule had just introduced. This demonstrates how composers created new music while exploring the saxophones potential. Both Glazunovs and Iberts works were composed for the German-born saxophonist Siegert Rasser. Additionally, the Legend by Capleta composer known as a close friend of Debussywas commissioned by the amateur saxophonist Ellis Hall. It is a captivating piece with a mystical atmosphere.
