The year 2011 marked the 50th anniversary of J.F. Kennedys inauguration as President of the United States. A concert commemorating this occasion was held in January, and the performance is featured on the first disc. The second disc features a historic live recording of a concert held exactly 50 years ago.The National Symphony Orchestra performs on both discs. CD-1 is conducted by Christian Thielemann, the orchestras music director. It features highlights such as Gershwin pieces with Bart as pianista performance previously recorded for EMIthat are well worth listening to.CD-2 features highlights from the radio broadcast of the inaugural concert held at that time. At President Kennedys request, works by American composers were performed, making this a valuable recording that evokes the history of the past 50 years.
