Arduan (17271808) was a composer of the Late Baroque period in France. Born into a modest family, he joined the choir at Reims Cathedral at the age of eight, where he received his musical education. He later entered a seminary, and in 1751, after receiving a formal clerical appointment, he became the choirs music director. Although he served as director of the new music academy in Reims from 1749 onward, Arduanwho placed great importance on religious liturgyresisted the growing demand for secular music and resigned from this position in 1773. This Collection of Four-Part Unaccompanied Masses is a collection of six masses published in 1772, which was widely circulated in pre-Revolutionary France. Although these works are rarely performed today, the St. Martin Chamber Choir, conducted by Timothy J. Krueger, has brilliantly brought them back to life.Naxos Japan
