This is the 10th release in the #bruckner2024 projectan initiative led by the CAPRICCIO label and the International Bruckner Society to record all versions of Bruckners symphonies by 2024, the 200th anniversary of his birth.For Symphony No. 5, which has no version-related issues, the Novak edition is used. As Armin Knapp was among the first to point out in 1908, the opening 22 measures contain all the archetypes of the works themes and motifs, and Poschner skillfully brings to life the magnificent contrapuntal tapestry woven from these elements. The performance time of approximately 71 minutes might suggest a somewhat fast tempo, but because the phrasing, articulation, and accents are handled with such meticulous care, the speed never feels overwhelming.
