Carlo Gesualdo, born into the nobility of the Kingdom of Naples and infamous for having his wife and her lover brutally murdered in a fit of rage over her infidelity during his first marriage, pursued a unique harmonic language with paranoid precision in his later years, arriving at a style that went far beyond the conventional norms of contemporary music. Before his death, he sank into extreme paranoia and distrust of others, shutting himself away in his castle; he even went so far as to summon the printer and his prin
