Haydn by master pianist Tuija Hakkila on an original fortepiano from the 1790sTuija Hakkila is one of Finland’s leading fortepiano players. Her repertoire is wide-ranging, from classical to modern, period to modern, and she has performed Haydn works by Sibelius, Saariaho, and others from her native Finland. Of Haydn’s sonatas for keyboard, of which about 60 now survive, and of which, according to records of the time, about 80 actually existed, eight were written before the age of 40. Six of the sonatas were written on Hakkila’s own original instrument from the 1790s. The sound is wonderfully preserved and solid, and we can enjoy its light and beautiful sound.
