Although not listed as a symphony, “When the Sun Rises,” which is almost the size to be considered a symphony due to its large scale and its composition, remains one of General Ko Chang’s most popular works. And “Ark Angels,” Cesarini’s first symphony, was a much-talked-about work that placed the names of archangels in each movement and used ancient Gregorian chant. Shion’s sound, guided by Shigeo Genda’s lucid bars, created a whirlwind of sound at The Symphony Hall.
