Rare recordings by the renowned German violinist Adolf Busch from his time with Columbia Records in the U.S. have been reissued.Adolf Busch (18911952) made a successful British debut in 1912 and later recorded extensively as an exclusive artist for British Columbia (HMV). In particular, his series of Beethoven recordings with the string quartet he founded were highly regarded as the definitive standard throughout the SP and monaural eras. When Nazi Germany rose to power, he moved to the United States, where he passed away in 1952 at the age of 60; however, his work with the chamber orchestra he organized there laid the foundation for todays Marlboro Music Festival, leaving a lasting legacy. During his time in the United States, Busch recorded for Columbia (CBS), and his duets with his son-in-law, Rudolf Serkin, were particularly highly regarded.
