His witty, lively, and cheerful music, along with his beautiful melodies, are said to have earned high praise from the literary giant Goethe and captivated audiences throughout Europe at the time. Unfortunately, it has become difficult today to gain a complete picture of Cimarosas operatic oeuvre, but listening to the overtures collected here alone should give you a sense of the enthusiasm they inspired at the time.
