Schumann spawned a concentrated output of piano works Schumann sometimes created a concentrated output of the same kind of music, and 1839 is said to be the year of the piano. All of the pieces in this album were written in 1839, with the exception of “Op.99-1-3 Three Pieces,” which was written in 1838. Incidentally, the following year, 1840, is known as the “Year of Song,” when he concentrated on composing songs. Alexandra Papastefanou, a Greek-born pianist who had also taken lessons from Jerzy Shevok and Alfred Brendel. This is her third album, following Bach’s Mean Laws (FHR-65) and French Suites (FHR-70).
