Alfred Cortot

Description:

Although Alfred Cortot was a musician who excelled in many fields as a conductor and chamber musician, he was, above all, a world-class pianist. In 1920, a critic wrote: Alfred Cortot is exploring the spiritual depths of music. Cortot is a genius, an original, and the most poetic of pianists. This reissue CD is the second volume in the five-volume Naxos series of Cortots Chopin SP recordings (each volume includes at least one work from the complete Chopin catalog recorded during the SP era). When the collection of waltz recordings was released in June 1934, *Gramophone* magazine reviewed it as follows: These waltzes are performed with an artistic value that is not diminished by a few minor technical errors. This record is packed with examples of high artistry, even in the way the rubato is handled.
