Artist in Residence” at the Malm University of Music,Amalie Stalheim!Benjamin Britten’s three “Suites for Unaccompanied Cello” are highly original 20th century works that have been compared to six works by J.S. Bach. In “No. 1,” the theme of “Fugue” following “Canto 1” is taken from the first “Fugue” of “The Mean Clavier Book,” and is considered a homage to Bach. The “No. 2” contains five pieces, including the highly virtuoso “Chaccona” (Chaconne). All three pieces were written for and dedicated to the Russian composer Mstislav Rostropovich.Amalie Stalheim was born in Bergen in 1993.
